It’s one thing cracking a joke and making friends laugh at a party, but a whole different ball game getting on stage and performing in front of a live audience. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to become Lenny Henry for a day?
There’s a common misconception that stand-up comics do nothing all day and tell stories to drunken audiences at night but as you will soon find out when you become a stand-up comic for the day, it's a lot tougher than that.
Part of your training will involve learning about improvisation and how to incorporate it into your performance. You will also be given guidance on reading your audience and assessing the kind of humour they’ll respond to. Script writing is a major part of a stand up comic's job as well as developing an understanding about the personal nature of humour and how it can be derived from personal experiences and eccentricities.
At the end of the day you will put your skills to the test when you perform your act in front of a live audience at your company’s very own ‘comedy club’.
This experience requires perseverance and encourages creative thinking. It is also a useful exercise for developing presentation skills but ultimately you should be able to have a good laugh!
